Getting Started In Hollywood

Hollywood, with all its glamour and frills, is one of the most important places in the world for working in film and television. If you are considering working in show business, but you are not sure where to start, now is your chance to get familiar with some of the more popular jobs in the film industry.

Acting

Acting in film and television is fun, but it is also one of the hardest careers in which to establish yourself. However, as long as you keep your head high and you avoid getting caught up in whether or not you’ll make it into a blockbuster hit, you could have a great time working on small gigs and enjoying the relationships you make.

Directing and Producing

Another hard entry point into the world of film and television, becoming a director or a producer can often be an uphill battle. Producers, like Heather Parry, often spend their entire life networking and building relationships in order to find any success in the film industry. The same goes for directors.

Sound Design and Music

If you are more creative with audio and music, it is possible to make a living working with post production mixing dialogue, sound effects, or music. If you like to write or perform music, there are also ample opportunities to do this as well. It is a competitive market, but with determination and networking, you could easily land a great gig.

Crew Work

If you are more interested in some of the behind-the-scenes work on productions, then you might consider becoming a line producer, gaffer, or cinematographer. There is a lot of demand for these areas in Hollywood, so if you act fast and network yourself, you just might stand a chance working on a crew for a big production.

The film industry is bigger than ever before, so it doesn’t hurt to consider making a move to Los Angeles to try and get your feet wet in the show business. Just remember that it could take a lot of work and determination, which may ultimately pay off in the end.
