Nkem Owoh of “Planter Plantation” in Nollywood and Alexander Powers American have been selected to represent Cameroon in international film festivals

In 2023, the Nollywood film “The Planters Plantation” starring Nkem Owoh will represent Cameroon at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences awards, often known as “The Oscars.” This development occurs when the disagreement inside the NOSC grows.

The Academy should include Planters Plantation among the top five foreign films for best foreign film in 2023. Stephanie Tum’s portrayal of a 1960s West African farm child is exemplary. She seems to be rather charming.

This Nollywood actress played the lead role in Cameroon‘s sixth Oscar entry, Planter’s Plantation.

In 1980, Cameroon submitted its first picture to the Best International Feature Film category of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts. The title of the film was Our Daughter.

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences of the United States of America presents the International Foreign Language Film (IFF) Award yearly to a feature-length film that was produced overseas and has dialogue in a language other than English.

Before the end of this month, the Nigerian Oscar Selection Committee announced that no other Nigerian film meets the requirements to be nominated in the International Feature Film category for the 2023 Academy Awards. In the past two years, this announcement was made.

The Board of the Cameroonian Film Industry has proposed Eystein Young’s The Planter’s Plantation as a starting point for the discussion.

Cameroon was the location of filming for the 1960s-set drama “The Planters Plantation.” James Whitaker, portrayed by Alexander Silverstone Powers, transfers his land to Mr. Planter when the country declares independence (NkemOwoh). So the suggestion came from Board of the Cameroonian Film Industry.

In 1980, Cameroon made history by submitting a film for the first time in the category of Best International Feature Film (IFF). It was titled “Our Daughter” when completed.

Every year, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents the International Film Festival Award, often known as the IFF Award, to a foreign-language film produced outside the United States. This award is also known as the IFF Award.

The sad musical was produced by BGC Melody Story, Extrafix Media, and Inn Amore Pictures in collaboration.

In addition to Owoh, “The Planters Plantation” has a superb cast of Cameroonian actors and actresses. They consist of Loic Sumfor, Stephanie Tum, and Syriette Che, with Nimo Loveline playing the role of Enanga.

Mr. Young is credited with co-producing, directing, and writing the film. The film’s credits mention Irene Nangi, Don Julio Bats, and QuinnyIjang as executive producers.

The film was just awarded three honours, including the festival’s highest honour, the EcranD’or, at the Ecran Noir Festival. In the preceding twenty-six years, no Cameroonian film has been honoured in this way.

The film won both the “Best Cameroon Actress” as well as “Best Cameroon/Overall Film” awards. In addition to being nominated for many London Film Critics’ Circle Awards, it was also nominated for the prestigious African International Film Festival (AFRIFF) and the Wales Film Festival (2022).
